Welcome to SAM Moose Hockey

WELCOME existing SAM families and an extra special welcome to those families joining us for the first time. Thank you for choosing The Skating Association of Maine (SAM) for your hockey experience.  SAM offers players of all ages an opportunity to learn and compete at the area's premier hockey facilities – The Camden National Bank Ice Vault.  We are a community-based, volunteer-governed, nonprofit organization designed to offer a structured, educational, and cost-effective hockey experience. SAM welcomes players from all neighboring communities.

SAM Moose Hockey Skills Coach Announcement

SAM Moose Hockey is pleased to announce Ray Jean as our Tier IV Goalie Development Coach.

Ray is a former goaltender at the University of Maine and Bentley University who played professionally in the American Hockey League, the East Coast Hickey League and the Central Hockey League.  For more than a decade, Ray has has operated his own goaltending school, Own The Crease, and served as the UMaine Black Bears' goaltending coach from 2013-2016.

Ray currently serves as the Director of Goaltending Development for the Maine Amateur Hockey Association and USA Hockey Goalie Development Coordinator.

SAM Moose Hockey Skills Coach Announcement

SAM Moose Hockey would like to officially announce DJ McNaughton as our new Tier IV Skills Coach. DJ is a friend to all at the Ice Vault and we couldn't be happier to have him on board. If you see him at the rink make sure to welcome him on board.

DJ grew up playing youth hockey at the Kennebec Ice Arena, now the Ice Vault. He attended Kents Hill School before playing two years of Junior Hockey for the Portland Jr. Pirates, and was fortunate enough to finish his career at NCAA Division 3 Johnson & Wales University. For the Last 13 years DJ has coached youth hockey for the Maine Moose program, from 10u up to 18u. In the off seasons DJ has worked for numerous camps and clinics including Turcotte Stickhandling School, Pro Ambitions Battle Camps, Maine Militia Hockey, and 9 Centre Hockey Development

SAM Inclement Weather Policy

Practices or Games will be held and only cancelled if the Ice Vault is closed for inclement weather conditions. Only the SAM Hockey Chairperson can cancel a practice or game if the Ice Vault is open for business.  Parents still have their personal choice to have their player attend or not attend a practice or game during inclement weather conditions.
