Welcome to SAM Jr Terriers Hockey

WELCOME existing SAM families and an extra special welcome to those families joining us for the first time. Thank you for choosing The Skating Association of Maine (SAM) for your hockey experience.  SAM offers players of all ages an opportunity to learn and compete at the area's premier hockey facilities – The Thomas College Ice Vault.  We are a community-based, volunteer-governed, nonprofit organization designed to offer a structured, educational, and cost-effective hockey experience. SAM welcomes players from all neighboring communities.

SAM Jr Terrier Goalie Development Coach

SAM Jr Terriers are pleased to announce Ray Jean returning as our Tier IV Goalie Development Coach.

Ray is a former goaltender at the University of Maine and Bentley University who played professionally in the American Hockey League, the East Coast Hockey League and the Central Hockey League.  For more than a decade, Ray has has operated his own goaltending school, Own The Crease, and served as the UMaine Black Bears' goaltending coach from 2013-2016.

 

SAM Jr Terrier Learn To Play Coordinator

SAM Jr Terriers are pleased to announce Elliot Emberley as our Learn To Play Coordinator

Elliot has been an assistant coach and goalie coach for the black tigers girls ice hockey program for the past 2 seasons. His passion for playing the game has transitioned into a passion for coaching and developing young players. By taking his years of experience in play he strategizes a development program that works for each skaters needs and creating the love for the game.

SAM Jr Terriers Skills Coach Announcement

SAM Jr Terrier Hockey is pleased to announce Tanya Quigley as our Tier IV Skills and Skating Coach

TANYA QUIGLEY Tanya began her professional skating career at the age of 18 as a performer with the Ice Capades - East Coast Company. Tanya performed with the Ice Capades for 3 tours as a chorus skater as well as a principal understudy. Tanya has over 25 years of teaching experience as a skating instructor for figure skaters and hockey players. Her passion for skating led her into teaching figure skaters and hockey players and helping students reach their full potential in their skating skills and goals. Tanya’s focus is in the details of showing and teaching the correct technical skating foundation to create proper muscle memory in the player. Through Tanya’s teaching technique on edging and correct skating skills, the skater becomes faster, agile, powerful and confident. She works with skaters from age 2 up through class A & B Highschool teams, junior hockey and college players. Tanya also has worked with several youth hockey associations & players from Tier 4 through Elite level in New England. She has been a part of the Blue Chip Selects in RI for several years. Tanya is widely regarded as one of the best power skating instructors in New England.

 

SAM Inclement Weather Policy

Practices or Games will be held and only cancelled if the Thomas College Ice Vault is closed for inclement weather conditions. Only the SAM Hockey Chairperson can cancel a practice or game if the Ice Vault is open for business.  Parents still have their personal choice to have their player attend or not attend a practice or game during inclement weather conditions.
