The Skating Association of Maine is a volunteer organization serving over 400 skaters in multiple programs each year. At the Annual meeting on Sunday April 30th, the following were recognized for their service, commitment, and dedication to the mission of SAM since its inception. Without these exceptional volunteers, our organization  could not reach our mission of providing an opportunity for the citizens of central Maine to participate in the  best skating and hockey programs in our area. Thank you!

SAM is posting the following paid positions to be filled for the 2017-18 Hockey season

Power skating coach: Skating skills are a critical hockey skill to be learned at every age level.  SAM is seeking a qualified hockey skating coach to teach Power Skating & Edge Control skills to the four age groups; 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U, house hockey program.  Practices (skills sessions) take place on Wednesday evenings starting at 5:10 with 8U and ending at 9:20 with 14U.  The applicant would be required to teach 10 skating skill sessions, 4 hours per session on Wednesdays during the season.  This is a paid postion. Please send an e-mail stating your interest and qualifications to Corey Vose at blackbass.vose@gmail.com

Atoms Director:  SAM Hockey is seeking a qualified applicant to run the learn to play hockey program at SAM.  The program takes place on Sunday mornings for one hour from November to March for a total of 16 weeks.  The qualified candidate would be required to create practice plans, coordinate practices with volunteer coaches, and execute practices plans consistent with USA Hockey’s recommended ADM model.  The qualified applicant would have a broad knowledge of teaching basic hockey skills to beginning players including; most importantly, skating skills.  This is a paid position. Please send an e-mail stating your interest and qualifications to Corey Vose at blackbass.vose@gmail.com

Goalie Coach:  The SAM Hockey steering committee would like to announce a new position for the upcoming hockey season.  SAM would like to provide it’s goalies with additional training over and above its regular practices.  We are seeking a qualified candidate to teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced goalie skills to all SAM goalies for the four age groups 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U.  This additional training would take place once per month for a total of 2 hours per session starting in November and ending in February.  Ice sessions will be booked when ice is available and we will make every effort not to book ice that conflicts with games and practices so that all goalies have the opportunity to attend.  The qualified candidate would be responsible to provide skills based goalie only practices to beginning, intermediate, and advanced level goalies.  All SAM coaches would be encouraged to attend and participate so that SAM coaches can learn goalie training, and drills that can be implemented into regular SAM practices.  This is a paid position.
